The Minister of India, Narendra Modi has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Visva Bharati University for the next three years. He replaced former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently that Pedroni.
"The President in his capacity as a visitor Visa Bharati (Acharya) is pleased to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the responsibility of the Minister of Viswa Bharati for a term of three years," said University of notification.
The Executive Council of the University had passed a resolution in July last year for Modi as chancellor and had sent the resolution to the HRD Ministry. Visva-Bharati was declared a central university and an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament in 1951. Appointment of modi comes at a time when the university Vice Chancellor faces probe administrative and financial irregularities.
This is the only university that has the Prime Minister as its chancellor. While the President of India is the Paridarsaka (visitor) of the University, the Governor of West Bengal is the Pradhan and Prime Minister Acharya (Rector) of the University. The President of India appoints the (vice) Upacharya University, according to the New India Express.
