New Delhi: universities and colleges around the country have been asked to observe the first International Day of yoga June 21, adopted by the United Nations a proposal by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The communication of all the rectors of the University Grants Commission (UGC) said institutions can also make sure that the promotional films and yoga training and communication materials distributed on the first day.
Sixty-ninth United Nations General Assembly meeting in September last year was a resolution to observe the International Day of yoga June 21 each year. Modi proposed the idea of the maiden speech of the UN General Assembly.
"The government has decided to put into practice the resolution by ensuring that the first International Day of yoga is celebrated in befitting of 21 June 2015.
"You are, therefore, requested to observe the International Day of yoga June 21, the prestigious universities and colleges affiliated to the university of your" Communication said.
