Delhi Universityâ??s School of Open Learning (SOL) students staged a protest outside Delhi Secretariat, demanding regular classes and new colleges in the national capital. The protesters, under the banner of Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), raised slogans asking for fulfillment of their demands.
The students, who are pursuing correspondence courses from DUâ??s SOL, reached the secretariat at around 11:40 AM and started protesting there. â??In the last 30 years, only two colleges have been built despite the fact that the number of students has been increasing every year, which has led to soaring college cut offs. Most students have not been able to get admission in colleges due to this,â?? said Dinesh Kumar, convenor, KYS.
Noting that there are 28 colleges of Delhi government affiliated to DU, Kumar also mentioned that they have been demanding that at least classes be started in these colleges so that students pursuing correspondence courses can attend regular classes and don't waste their precious time. â??We also demand that libraries of governmentâ??s colleges be open for these students so that they can study properly,â?? he said.
The protestors called off their protests when police intervened in the matter. Later, they submitted their memorandum in the office of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
