Sathyabama University was established under § (3) of the UGC Act, 1956 (A Christian Minority Institution) which was formerly known as Sathyabama Engineering College established JEPPIAAR educational trust in 1987, is a pioneer institute imparting knowledge in Engineering, Science, technology and education. The institution's progress and contribution to technical education for over two decades made the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India government. given the deemed university status on July 16, 2001, and university status on September 13, 2006 under section (3) of the UGC Act, 1956.
Sathyabama University under the dynamic leadership of Honorable Chancellor Dr. JEPPIAAR colonel, Mrs. Remibai Chancellor Jeppiaar, has been strengthening university activities to bring fruits of research for betterment of society with the able support and valuable guidance of Dr. Marie Johnson and Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, Directors, Dr. B.Sheela Rani, Rector, Dr. T.Sasipraba Dean (publications and conferences), Dr. PESankaranarayananDean (academic research) Dr. SSRau, registrar and Dr. KVNarayanan, chairman of the examination.
The University offers courses in 24 branches of Engineering at UG level and 24 courses at PG level in addition to Sciences, MBA, MCA and PhD programs in all disciplines. The University has excellent infrastructure facilities including modern laboratories, library with video, Internet and other general services. To his credit is assigned as a category "A" of the Emergency Department of University Human Resources (MHRD), Government of India. The University has undertaken various sponsored and collaborative research and development projects funded by national organizations such as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) , defense research and Development organization (DRDO), National Institute of ocean technology (NIOT), Ministry of environment and forests (MoEF), etc. University has great promise to expand the applications of space technology, benefiting the common man and enriching the quality of life in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization University (ISRO) was conducting non formal education programs through 18 village resource centers (VRCs) all over the state.
