Rabindra Bharati University - University of Calcutta, India. It was founded on May 8, 1962, according to the law of Rabindra Bharati Government of West Bengal in 1961 to mark the centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is located in the family house, Tagore Jorasanko Thakur Bari.
University prepares undergraduate and graduate students in the performing arts and visual arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and other subjects at the Faculty of Arts.
The university was founded in 1962, he held the former home of Rabindranath Tagore. And two of the three faculties of the University of Fine Arts and Fine Arts, are still there when the Faculty of Arts was founded in 1976, it was located on a new campus at 56A, b. m. Road, Kolkata-50. The new campus was on the grounds of "Emerald gazebos," mansion built Harakumar Tagore, the poet's uncle. The mansion and its parks, acquired by the Government of West Bengal, was the complex of academic institutions among which this University has the central and larger share. The main administrative office is located in the gazebo emerald.
The university was reorganized in 1981 by the Law on Rabindra Bharati, 1981.
Jorasanko Thakur Bari is the ancestral home of the Tagore family, located in the campus.This is the house where the poet was born and the first non - European Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. This is also the place where he spent most of his childhood and died August 7, 1941.
