Dozens of experts, academicians and scientists held a March in solidarity with the students of Jadavpur University, who were allegedly beaten by police, and demanded the resignation of the Vice Chancellor of the University.
The number of it professionals, scientists, educators and engineers, many of whom are former students of JU, participated in the March, holding candles in last evening and condemned the police action on students protesting peacefully the campus.
The protesters demanded the resignation of VC Abhijit Chakraborti with "all parties concerned have lost faith in him," and the establishment of an independent and impartial Committee probe to investigate molestation.
They also called for strengthening security and restoring the academic environment on the campus. The participants were seen holding placards, posters and banners to express their solidarity with the students of the University.
"We are upset and anguished over the incidents that occurred on the campus of our alma mater," said Mithun Ranjit, it professionals who took part in the rally.
Meanwhile, the head of Hyderabad from Jadavpur University Alumni Association also sent a letter to the Governor of West Bengal and the University Chancellor k. Tripathi demanding the resignation of the VC.
