GSLIS PhD program is the oldest doctoral program LIS in the nation. She continues to grow and change in response to new technological and social opportunities for the generation, dissemination and access to information. The program is research-oriented and interdisciplinary.
A Ph.d. in library and Information Science (LIS) opens up many opportunities for people from different disciplinary backgrounds. Graduates pursue a career in academia, public institutions and private corporations. For example, proaspeții alumni have joined the faculty at academic institutions such as the University of Buffalo-State University of New York, the Florida State University, the University of Alabama, the University of Washington, and at the University of Syracuse. Others have gone to work in research and development laboratories at Microsoft, Siebel Systems, and MITRE, and manage collections of the library of Congress and the University of Chicago.
The program is aimed at students with outstanding achievements which have demonstrated the required level of education, professional experience, scientific potential and interest to carry out independent research, and exemplary in the field of LIS. Applicants who can demonstrate the ability, leadership, intellectual communication and analytical skills, the potential to contribute significantly to the research and education in LIS, and the enthusiasm to do this at the highest level are welcome to apply to this doctoral program Admissions Committee, known as the Doctoral Committee (DSC), also considers the match between the applicant's research interests and directions of research supported by the school.
