Newman College is a Catholic institution of higher education in Thodupuzha, Kerala, India, run by the Diocese Kotamangalama. It is a leading college in the area of Idukki, with more than 100 students, 86 teachers and 37 teachers.
The college was named John Henry Newman. Newman was a leader of the Oxford in England of the XIX century, and one of the most prominent Anglican converts to Catholicism. He founded the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in Birmingham and later became a cardinal. He was one of the leading theologians of the XIX century, the great scientist, deeply interested in the education system and the author of many works, including "The Idea of a University." His beatification was announced by Pope Benedict XVI in Birmingham on September 19, 2010.
The college is best known internationally for the incident in 2010. On July 4, 2010 Professor Joseph JT was attacked and his arm destroyed by Islamic radicals, claiming that punctuation exercises, which he put in the exam was offensive to Islam. Although college 600,000 rupees for his medical care, he was on September 4, fired college on the grounds that it "insults community" and the death of "good will to the church"
