Hi guys, I just got the results of my examination and did not go according to plan. Does anyone have any good sites or links that you can use for academic alternatives? Thanks! Related
Quora usage, the son of a professional pianist, always ... (more)
Team doctor trying I think I sound like your parents probably. But I'm a parent.
Look for this small message to the word "Beatles". Read that and then start again here.
I'm not sure my immediate thought would be to use a website. I would reasses my priorities and reflect. For example, there is a job I was hoping to do? Is the only way in this job to have a degree? If you have to have a degree makes you really, really want the job? If not, then maybe you should go back to school (another, presumably) and then repeat the exams.
But if you are not good at exams (I was not!), then perhaps the University is not the right place for you. I never went, but both my sons have made and one of them went on to do a doctorate and doing a little teaching (he has a job "right" now!). He commented that he was surprised at how many young people are finding the transition difficult at school (where they are taught to learn facts) to University (where you are expected to do their own research based on some more hints).
Now go back and ask yourself the question again-do I need a degree to do what I want to do? Medicine is only possible in the profession I can think if this is true; Even doctors, nurses Pharmacists need a degree. It helps to enter the legal profession, but there are also other ways. But most other jobs have alternative ways. The problem is how to find them.
Leaving aside the obvious places such as Careers Officers think and if it has a professional-Musicians Union Association, the Law Society, ACPA for Accountants (Yes, I know all a bit dry and boring, but you get the idea, I hope). Phone with the Association which deals with interest and ask about how to get trained on the job; There are all sorts of things, such as modern day release Appreticeships, etc. There is an exhibition in which industry you are interested in show his wares. While there may be people out there that make hiring and firing, you can ask questions, to see if they really what interests you and ask how to get in touch with staff (sometimes known as human resources). There is a trade magazine? The jobs there are almost always people with experience, but as you read about the companies that you find out about them and their products and job notices will provide you with addresses. Some articles include interviews-note the names and job titles, never knows that it could be someone in a position of employment that you can send your request. at-it is always better to talk to a person than a Department.
Read local newspapers. There is a new company in motion for your area? You want to be an artist? Maybe it's a story about someone local who has been successful. Take a chance, call that person. You know George Martin-the man who hired the Beatles? Look it up on Wikipedia and the name Sidney Harrison (Dad-a professional pianist) appears. George approached dad after a concert on which tata has given and asked him for advice about studying the music. Their lives have gone to different places and one was when someone asked dad if we know about a man who could be interested in a job at Parlaphone and dad said "George Martin. Jobs has put Martin in the position in which the employee met the Beatles.
Back to reality ... This is where it gets tricky. But, as you have been researching and asking questions and obtaining knowledge should be exposed to the kinds of skills you will need the taget. I don't want to say that you have this skill or that exam, I mean what is inside of you, that will mean you will turn into an employee wishing to retain (and other people want to poach). Now I tell them about you in a way that they say "this is someone who understands us and what we're about." That means that if you consider two companies that seem to do the same job looking at them separately; send them different resumes. I have worked in computers linked to the airline and travel industry. The company I worked for had 3 major competitors and I know people in each of the other corporations; they all have slightly different cultures and had hired people they thought would suit their culture. This also means, don't take any old job, ask questions at the interview; It's better to discover the pitfalls from that mom
