Kerala water authority has registered cases against 15 schools over illegal water connections. Inspection organized by its anti-theft team uncovered extensive anomaly, including water theft.
KWA task drinking water and sewer services to the people. It is responsible for design, construction, execution, operation and maintenance of water supply schemes and removal of waste water.
It is also entrusted with building globally accepted standards for water and sewer. The probe also revealed that schools pay about Rs15, 000 to use 200 kg liter water per month through illegal water connection.
"Going by the information we have received, there are many aided schools using illegal connections. By CBSE schools, there can not be any illegal connection. Information we have received suggests irregularities that manipulation of water meters of these schools," Times of India quoted a KWA official as saying.
