Application are invited from motivated students for a research grant to do a PhD at the Inter-University Centre of Astronomy and Astrophysics (cassava), Pune (an autonomous institution of the University grants Commission) or fir National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NcrA), Pune (center of the Tata Institute of fundamental Research (TIFR), a deemed University), which has built and operatedm the radiotelescope Metreware Gaint (GMRT)
Cassava and NcrA:
Cassava offers challenging opportunities for young researchers in theory, observation and instrumentation in astronomy and astrophysics. Recently, cassava has acquired a portion 10m in the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) and Opera Observatory of cassava Girawali (IGO) with 2m optical telescope. These two telescopes with imaging capabilities, and spectroscopic surface. Cassava has a high performance computing facility and a good library.
NcrA offers great opportunities for research in astronomy and astrophysics, as well as instrumentation, with emphasis in Radio Astronomy. NcrA has built and operates Metrewave giant radio telescope, located near Pune and is the largest and most powerful radio telescope in the world at low radio frequencies. This has been used internationally and has led to several significant discoveries. • NcrA facility has modern facilities and a well-stocked library computer.
Applications are invited from students who expect to complete their engineer, M.Sc. integrated or degrees B.E. / B.Tech. / M.E. / M.Tech. August 2015 marks 55% or more. Students in any branch of AE, B. Tech, ME or technological degrees melampus, or in the branches of undergraduate or graduate engineer, physics, electronics, astronomy and applied mathematics are eligible to apply sun light • 2014-died. Students who finish their degrees of M.Sc. M.Sc. / Integrated / M.E. / M.Tech. August 2015 will be eligible for selection for the doctoral program and therefore cassava NcrA-TIFR. Students who complete theire / B.Tech. degrees in August 2015 be eligible for selection for the doctoral program that cassava and two doctoral program integrated NcrA-TIFR (except Engineering Physics students who will be eligible for selection program for PhD NcrA-TIFR). Students who complete their degrees B.s. August 2015 will be eligible for selection of integrated NcrA-TIFR doctoral program and the doctoral program preselection cassava.
We are looking for motivated students with a consistently good academic record. While recommend students to ask engineering backgrounds light dies-2014, we emphasize that we are looking for students interested in conducting doctoral research in physics or astronomy and astrophysics. Therefore we hope that future candidates to have a good knowledge of basic physics.
Based on the applications and various medical assessments, a subset of candidates shortlisted and invited to take the written test will be held in Pune on 18 December 2014. Candidates with 55% or more marks in the qualifying tests can also for the written test to produce a valid photo ID and a copy of your most recent marksheet. They should inform the city Chandrasekhar cassava Auditorium, 9:00 pm for the verification of these documents, to ensure that there are no logistical problems. The final selection for the fellowship is based on the results of the written test (on Thursday, December 18, 2014) and two interviews (on Thursday, December 18, and / or Friday, December 19, 2014) both to be held in Pune. The test is 2 hours. The question paper will have two parts, A and B, Party A will contain twenty basic objective type questions in mathematics, physics and electronics. Party B will contain another twenty objective type questions in physics, mathematics and electronics / Advanced Engineering. For each question, candidates must identify and mark the correct answer from the four given answers. For a correct answer, there will be 3 + (plus three) brand and a wrong answer, there will be brand s -1 (minus one).
Based on their performance in the written test, a small number of candidates will be invited for two interviews, which will be held on December 18 and / or 19, 2014.
The final selection will be based on the scores of the written test and interviews.
