Vizhayapure regional center of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) takes education in prisons. He plans to establish a training center in the central prison inmates Ballari do their academic courses through distance learning. IGNOU offers free education to any prisoner who wants to pass any course in the center.
«Ballari going to be the first among the ten districts of the center where the training center should be established in jail," said S. Radha, Regional Director, IGNOU. 58 prisoners in prison Ballari already applied for various courses.
After was released from prison, they can continue to study, but have to pay the prescribed course.
To the question, she said that after Ballari, IGNOU is planning to establish research centers in central prisons Kalaburagi and Solapur (Maharashtra). "We also wanted to have one study center in Vizhayapure central prison, for which we are in contact with the prison authorities," says Ms. Radha.
Vizhayapure center covers a total of 10 districts, of which 8 are located in northern Karnataka and two in Maharashtra (Solapur and Latour). Center currently offers 57 master's degree, bachelor's degree, diploma and certificate courses.
She said that in Vizhayapure center, which came into existence in June 2011, has 587 students for the July session of this year.
She said that IGNOU has a certificate for recognition across the country.
Center Vizhayapure begin foreign language and journalism courses in the next few days, based on the requirements.
