Kanjirappallil Thomas Oommen was consecrated and installed as Bishop of Central Kerala Diocese of Church of South India (CSI) the CSI Cathedral here Saturday at Holy Trinity.
He became Bishop of the 12th century the diocese formed in 1879, after Bishop Samuel Thomas, who retired at the age of 65 years.
The ceremonies began with a reception at the Bishop appointed at 09: 15 from the gateway to the Cathedral. The Cathedral Choir, the clergy, the Office bearers of the Synod of bishops and followed the procession to the sanctuary of the Cathedral.

Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Mar Thoma Church leader; Bishop g. Devakadaksham, Deputy Chair of CIS; K. G. Daniel Bishop and Commissioner for the moderator; were concelebrants.
Presentation of the Bible and pastoral staff of the celebrant and the subsequent declaration of the faithful meant the consecration. A Liturgy followed.
The bishops B.S. Devamani, j. Prabhakara Rao, John s. Sadananda, KP Kuruvilla, Samuel Sam K.J. Mathew, J. W. Gladstone, Michael John and George Isaac; Z Mar Theophilus Suffragon Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church; and Rev. Samuel Thomas participated.
Thousands of believers have I'm ally Muir and surrounding components of the Cathedral to witness the ceremony.
The Responsibility Of The Church
The new Bishop, in his speech at the conclusion of the ceremonies, said religion can not be viewed in isolation from the political system.
"Both the Government and the Church are responsible for ensuring the welfare of their people. Whenever the interests of the people and social peace are at stake, the Church will speak for exploatați and oprimați, even if it is a lone voice, "he said.
He stressed the importance of reviewing and redefining the Mission of the Church's teaching.
"The diocese has a great legacy in education and new policies is a major challenge for rural schools started by the ancestors of the emancipation of marginalized segments, which have been denied by caste based education. If education was denied on the basis of caste and financial background, then, is the criterion that is lacking now, "Bishop said. The Church cannot remain a silent spectator to such exploitation, he added.

Later in the day, a public reception was held in the premises of the Cathedral. Mar Thoma Metropolitan Philipose Mar Chrysostom Senior Gold inaugurated the event.
Minister Of Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran; Opposition leader Oommen Chandy; Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani; Jose k. Mani Kodikkunnil Suresh, and Anto Antony, parliamentarians; Mr. Vasavan, Mr. Joseph and more than two MLA, Thomas Chazhikadan and Alphons Kannamthanam; Archbishop Mar Joseph Powathil Syro-Malabar Church; Yuhanon Mar Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Niranam Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church; Thomas Mar Themotheos Metropolitan of Kottayam Diocese of Jacobite Syrian Church; Metropolitan Mar Kuriakose and Sever the Knanaya Diocese; they were among those who paid tribute to the new Bishop to function.
