Coconut study was initiated in India in 1916 in the state of Madras once with the creation of the four research stations, one in Kasaragod and Pilicode and two in Nileshvare. In 1972, when there was the Kerala Agricultural University is one of the stations in Nileshvare (Nileshvare-II) and at the station were transferred Pilicode Kerala Agricultural University with its headquarters in Pilicode. Under N.A.R.P. These stations were reorganized in the form of regional agricultural research station for the Northern Region with the Ist August 1980.
The main purpose of the station is to perform the functions of the wide lead status of research on coconut and serve commodity inspection and testing center for rice, legumes and oilseeds, as well as to control and direct the work on the Pepper Research Station, Panniyur in the northern zone of Kerala. Scientists of this station will work with selected villages farmers understand the limitations and reactions towards the adoption of recommended practices. It is also necessary to test and evaluate promising experimental results in farmers' fields in different types of soil and climatic conditions prior to their inclusion in the package of recommendations practice.
